Safety

We firmly believe that people are what make CSG who we are.  We value the health and safety of our workforce and strive to maintain an injury-free workplace.

Our Safety Policy provides clear direction on our objectives for occupational health and safety:

  • Senior management is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace
  • Health and safety will be integrated into all workplace activities
  • All employees share the responsibility in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace
  • All levels of management will be held accountable for health and safety responsibilities

We will conduct business as follows:

  • Provide the leadership and resources that enables our workforce to meet improvement objectives and targets
  • Inform, train and establish expectations for employee’s health and safety performance
  • Establish objectives and targets that result in continuous improvement of our performance
  • Identify, assess and manage the safety and health risks of all our operations
  • Supervision will ensure that all employees work in a safe environment
  • No task will be performed that compromises the health or safety of an employee
  • Employees will recognize that working safely is a condition of employment
  • Health and safety expectations are used for evaluating, recognizing and rewarding
  • Routinely monitor, assess and report on our health and safety performance

The “I Am Safety!” sticker was born from an executive safety committee meeting where each and every person in the company needed to commit to improving the safety culture.

The “Got PPE…Are U Covered?” sticker  originated at the same time.  It serves as a reminder for every task we are about to perform, did we mitigate the hazards before we begin work.

Electrical Transmission & Distribution Strategic Partnership

CSG was one of the original six signatory contractors, along with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union, Edison Electric Institute (EEI), National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), who formed a strategic partnership with OSHA to reduce injuries and fatalitities in the line construction industry.  To date the partnership has developed industry-specific training courses and best practices to address the most common injury-producing situations.  Click here to view the Partnership website http://powerlinesafety.org.

Safe Driving

CSG trains and expects our drivers to use the concept of “Space-cushion” defensive driving.  We subscribe to the “Smith System” which uses the five keys to maintain space for your vehicle and visibility for you the driver.  The five keys are:

  • Aim high in steering
  • Get the big picture
  • Keep your eyes moving
  • Leave yourself an out
  • Make sure they see you
